Flea Markets
Now I love Tiffany’s as much as the next dizzy dame, but sometimes your inner foxhound craves a good old fashioned hunt. I know what you’re thinking, Why would I want some used oddments that smell like a musty crawlspace?…but stick with me. The Travel Channel lists a few of the World’s Best Flea Markets, and these ain’t your Grandma’s swap-shops. Nowadays, local artists use this platform to auction off their handmade wonders, farmers sell seasonal produce, and you have a good chance of getting that antique doll collection or vintage record anthology for a steal. Don’t get me wrong, you’re going to have to dig through the miscellany to strike gold, but when you do- the rewards are invaluable. China from an old Chicago restaurant? Twenty Bones. A White Sox pennant from the year I was born? Ten Bucks. 1950’s baby jars? Seventeen Clams. Six Vargas prints I-couldn’t-decide-between-because-I-loved-them-all? Thirty-Six Dollars. Watching mum enjoy a funnel cake with both hands? Priceless.
